Formatting Subtotals Using Visible Cells Only

When we subtotal data in Excel it can be difficult to distinguish the totals from the data. Here is any easy technique that might help.

Here are steps:

  1. You take your data and you use the Subtotals command to add the subtotals.

  2. You then click the level 2 button to display only the subtotals

  3. Select the range of subtotals
  4. 2007: Go to the Home tab, Click Find&Select (at the far right end of the Home Tab), Select Go To Special, select Visible Cells only.
    2003: Go to Edit menu, Go To, Click the Special button, select Visible cells only
    Tip: Don’t take the selection of the cells.
    Shortcut: Function key F5 works to get you to special also in both versions.

  5. Apply the formatting of choice to those cells.
     
  6. Then Click level 3 button to confirm.
